Have the right tools. This sounds like a no-brainer, right? But you wouldn’t believe, for instance, the amount of moving boxes that people tape with duct tape, rather than moving/packing tape. Go to your local Walmart, Target, or home improvement store where you can find all the moving supplies you’ll need. The right sized boxes, packing tape, bubble wrap, and Sharpies to write each box’s destination. These things will get you started.
Think about how you want your things unpacked. We’ll help you out with labeling the boxes and making sure they get to where they need to go in your new home. But if you’re hoping to start packing before our movers show up, try and pack things to make your life easier when it comes time to unpack. Even if it feels like you just want to get the packing done and rush through it, remember that you’ll want the unpacking to go even quicker. Pack things together based on what room they are going to, not what room you are packing them up in.
When in doubt, leave it to the professionals. If you’ve got special items that you’re just not sure how to pack, let us consult. Did you know, for instance, that plasma screen TV’s should really have special packing, beyond just throwing it in your sedan with a blanket over it? To ensure all your possessions make it to the new home safely, better to be safe than sorry.
