Moving to a big city when you come from a small town is quite the awakening. When you make your move to San Diego, you might feel like a fish out of water if you are used to a five-minute drive to the nearest grocery store. Whether you’re moving for personal reasons or perhaps you have been relocated to San Diego for your job, here are some tips to help you adjust to living in a larger city.

Start small. You don’t have to know where everything is the first week you move. If you take one neighborhood at a time, getting to know your way around will feel more manageable. Obviously learn the neighborhood you live in first and find the basics, like the grocery stores, schools, and perhaps the best route to work. Once you feel confident where you live, you can branch out and explore other areas in and around San Diego.

Get involved. Become friendly with your neighbors, talk to your friends at work, or join a club or other group. The more you feel connected to people the less you feel lost in a big city. You could even try joining a team sport!
Get a good map. Especially living in a city that is spread out like San Diego, you’ll need to have the help of map or some other kind of navigation device. The trick is to not overuse it; otherwise you’ll never learn how to get places by yours
