If you’re preparing for a household move, chances are you’ve spent time thinking about all of the things you need to do. From organizing a moving sale and packing your belongings to arranging for transportation of your items, there’s a lot that goes into planning for a relocation.

When it comes to moving in the summer, you also need to consider how you’re going to stay cool. More than being uncomfortable, moving during the summer heat can be dangerous if you aren’t properly prepared. Make sure you stay cool, comfortable, and safe during your summer move by following our tips below.

Stay Hydrated

Staying hydrated is an important part of a summer move. You probably know that drinking water is important, but you may also want to consider having a supply of drinks containing electrolytes on hand. Avoid dehydration by limiting or completely eliminating caffeine or energy drinks on the day of your move.

Plan for Power

Plan to keep the power on in your home until the day after your move, and to schedule turning the power on in your new home the day before the move. This way, you’ll be able to enjoy air conditioning during loading and delivery.

Take Breaks

Chances are you want to get the moving process over as quickly as possible, but it’s important not to overexert yourself—especially when the temperatures are soaring. Take frequent breaks and try to do the bulk of moving early in the morning or later in the evening when it’s cooler outside.

Dress Appropriately

Wear light colored clothing on moving day to help keep your body temp down. It may be tempting to wear sandals, but be sure you wear closed-toe shoes appropriate for moving.
